“The London coffeehouse that Edward Lloyd opened in 1688 became the center of maritime intelligence and insurance – and evolved into the well-known Lloyds of London.”
“In 1793, a small group of auctioneers and merchants began meeting regularly at the Tontine Coffee House in New York City. Their enterprise eventually became the New York Stock Exchange.”

I think this just goes to show that some pretty important work can come from coffee shops.
