“WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Starting Nov. 23, you can know enjoy a cup of coffee like the Founding Fathers did in an authentic recreation of an 18th-century coffeehouse. More than 200 years since Americans gathered to discuss political and social issues in an authentic 18th-century coffeehouse, Colonial Williamsburg formally dedicates the R. Charlton Coffeehouse on Nov. 20. The coffeehouse is the Historic Area’s newest exhibition building and the first major reconstruction on Duke of Gloucester Street in more than half a century.”

I’m not a history buff by any means, but I think this coffeehouse sounds like it could be pretty cool. I’d love to visit, if only it were closer.

The Coffee Song, by Frank Sinatra

Wednesday, November 11th, 2009

I originally saw this posted at Coffee Hero, and looked at a couple other videos on YouTube. There are all sorts of lyrics listed for this song online. I don’t know much about Sinatra or this song, but below are the lyrics to the version in the video above, as I hear them.

Way down among Brazilians
Coffee beans grow by the billions
So they’ve got to find those extra cups to fill
They’ve got an awful lot of coffee in Brazil

You can’t get cherry soda, ‘Cause they’ve got to sell their quota
And the way things are, I guess they never will
They’ve got a zillion tons of coffee in Brazil

No tea, or tomato juice
You’ll see, no potato juice
‘Cause The planters down in Santos all say no, no, no

A politician’s daughter
Was accused of drinking water
And was fined a great big fifty dollar bill
They’ve got an awful lot of coffee in Brazil

And when their ham and eggs need savor
Coffee ketchup gives ‘em flavor
Coffee pickles way outsell the dill
Why they put coffee in the coffee in Brazil

No tea, or tomato juice
You’ll see, no potato juice
‘Cause the planters down in Santos all say no, no, no

So you’ll add to the local color
Serving coffee with a cruller
Dunking doesn’t take a lot of skill
They’ve got an awful lot of coffee in Brazil

Man, they’ve got a gang of coffee in Brazil

Hey Pedro, get the flashlight. I cannot find the sugar.
