“WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Starting Nov. 23, you can know enjoy a cup of coffee like the Founding Fathers did in an authentic recreation of an 18th-century coffeehouse. More than 200 years since Americans gathered to discuss political and social issues in an authentic 18th-century coffeehouse, Colonial Williamsburg formally dedicates the R. Charlton Coffeehouse on Nov. 20. The coffeehouse is the Historic Area’s newest exhibition building and the first major reconstruction on Duke of Gloucester Street in more than half a century.”

I’m not a history buff by any means, but I think this coffeehouse sounds like it could be pretty cool. I’d love to visit, if only it were closer.

World Coffee Supply to Drop

“Nov. 17 (Bloomberg) — World coffee supply may drop by about 3.2 percent in the current season, after rainfall pared output in Brazil, Vietnam and Colombia, International Coffee Organization Executive Director Nestor Osorio said.

Global supply may fall to about 124 million bags in the year that started Oct. 1 from 128.1 million bags a year earlier, Osorio said in a telephone interview from Bogota yesterday. A bag of coffee weighs 60 kilograms (132 pounds).”

Computer Crash

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

Well, my computer crashed for the second time in about two months. You’d think I would have backed up my computer several times a day after all the stuff I lost last time, but I didn’t. I lost pages for info on the coffee plant and the difference between robusta and arabica beans, and quite a bit of minor site formatting. I also lost the new links pages, with about 100 links for info, brands, and associations/organizations. I’ll still be posting some tips/tricks, facts, and news, but possibly not as often while my computer is being sent off the the Apple store, yet again. At least the information will be in my head better, having to write it up a second time. Maybe I’ll go have a cup of coffee now.

Growing Mushrooms From Coffee Grounds

Monday, November 16th, 2009

“Nikhil Arora and Alejandro Velez’s plans after graduating from the at UC Berkeley Haas School of Business didn’t include becoming farmers.

But they took a detour in the spring during a business ethics class, where the two learned that coffee grounds, one of the country’s largest waste streams, could be used as a medium for growing mushrooms.”

They even offer mushroom-growing kits for $20.
